Take a drive down the south side of Loch Ness
Explore the southside of Loch Ness. Drive via Loch Duntelchaig (Loch of the Snails in Gaelic) and Loch Ashie and view Loch Ness from the top – what a drive – what a view! Stop for lunch at the Dores Inn.
Visit Clava Cairns
Discover one of Scotland’s most evocative prehistoric sites – the exceptional remains of an ancient cemetery, set on a terrace above the River Nairn.
Take a stroll along the River Ness
Starting from Inverness city centre is a 2 hour circuit walk through the city centre along the banks of the River Ness.
For keen nature watchers, seals and seabirds can be spotted between the two road bridges that run through the city. Along the river, you can walk across the footbridges to explore both sides of the riverbank. Connecting to the footbridges further upstream is a small, beautiful collection of islands called Ness Islands.
Have a rummage through a Salvage Yard
If you like to rummage through an eclectic collection of old-things then this is your place! It is only 5mins from Gask House at the side of the A9.
Visit Fort George
Fort George is an active mililtaty base, however there are still many areas that are open to the public. There is more than a kilometre of ramparts to walk along offering expansive views of the Moray Firth and those elusive dolphins, there is an audio guided tour lasting about 1 hour and the visit as whole lasts about 2 hours.
The Highlander Museum is a must-see part of the visit, there is a shop, cafe and quizzes for kids.
Historic Environment Scotland, who manage the site for visitors, charge an entry fee.
